Better Border Health – Albury Wodonga and Region
Better Border Health (BBH) is a company limited by guarantee and established in 2022, in response to community concerns about the inadequate infrastructure and resources provided to Albury Wodonga Health.
BBH supports the Border Medical Association (BMA), a non-political organisation of medical practitioners in Albury Wodonga and the surrounding region. BMA is committed to supporting the urgent quest for a new single site hospital for the region.
BMA have clearly identified the current hospital infrastructure over two separate sites is inadequate due to
- the clinical risks to patients and;
- the risks to recruitment, training and retention of clinicians
BBH provides a community voice:
TO EDUCATE our population about the real threats to the provision of first class and safe health services in the future
TO MOTIVATE people to add their community voice to ours
TO ADVOCATE strongly for a new regional public hospital on a new single site
TO QUESTION spending of health funding committed by all Governments, to meet clinical need and ensure best value for taxpayers’ money
Proof our Border community is missing out

A comparative analysis undertaken by Better Border Health – Albury Wodonga and region reveals startling inequities in the provision of health services for residents in the border region. The work to date compares Albury Wodonga Health with hospitals in Shepparton, Wangaratta, Bendigo, Grampians Health (Ballarat) and Wagga.
It reveals Border residents have hundreds of millions of dollars LESS spent on them; have access to far fewer hospital beds; far fewer operating theatres, and experience elective surgery waiting lists which are more than double that of the next highest regional centre.
